Post new Marketo lead details to Cisco Spark room

Flow description

This flow fetches the details of any new lead created in Marketo, and sends the details of the lead to a Cisco Spark room.

Triggers and actions

You will need to set up the following trigger and actions for creating this flow:

Trigger: Marketo – New Lead 

Action 1: Cisco Spark – Post New Message

What you need:

     - Marketo account

     - Cisco Spark account

Let’s look at the steps involved in creating this flow.

  • Step 1. Add a flow

    Sign in to your Flow Express account. Then, hover on the ‘+ Add Flow’ card that you see on the dashboard, and select ‘+ Blank Flow’. This will take you to the trigger page, where you need to set up a trigger for your flow.

  • Step 2. Set up trigger

    We want to create such a flow such that it triggers whenever a new lead is created in your Marketo account. So, for this we will set up 'Marketo – New Lead' trigger. 

    Step 2.1. Select trigger app – Marketo

    From the list of apps displayed in the ‘Select a trigger app’ screen, select Marketo.


    Step 2.2. Select trigger event – New Lead

    As soon as you select 'Marketo', the next page will display the list of all the events of Marketo that you can use as trigger for this flow. From the list, choose the 'New Lead' event, since we want the flow to run when a new lead is created.


    Step 2.3. Connect to your account

    The 'Connect' step requires you to connect Flow Express to your Marketo account. To do this, click the '+ Add an account' button and log in to your Marketo account in the new window that appears. Connecting to your Marketo account requires few details as described below:

    Identity Service URL: Enter your Marketo identity service URL. For example,

    Client ID: Enter your Marketo client ID.

    Client Secret: Enter your client secret.

    If you have already added an account, select the required one from the list.

    Obtaining Identity Service URL, Client ID and Client Secret

    Navigate to the ‘Admin’ section of Marketo application. Now, expand the ‘Integration’ section on the left panel. For obtaining Identity Service URL, click on the ‘Web Services’ panel, your identity service URL should look similar to:, from which will be your identity URL. Now, under 'Launchpoint' panel, you will see list of installed services. Locate the service you wish to retrieve the details of and click on the ‘View Details’ link besides it to get the Client ID and secret.




    Step 2.4. Configure ‘Marketo - New Lead’ trigger

    Once you connect Marketo to Flow Express, you will be directed to the 'Configure' page. This trigger does not contain any fields to be configured. This page gives you the facility to add filters to set conditional logic inside your flow. To achieve this, click the 'Add filter' link. Provide the 'Input', 'Condition', and 'Expected' values in the field to configure this filter. Click on the 'Skip' link if you wish to skip this stage, else click on the 'Next' to proceed to the next step. 


    With this step, we are done with setting up the trigger. Now it's time to set up an action.

  • Step 3. Set up an action – Cisco Spark

    Since we want to send the details of the lead to Cisco Spark room, we will set up the required action.

    Step 3.1. Select app

    After setting up the trigger, click the 'Add action' link. From the list of apps that appear, select 'Cisco Spark'.


    Step 3.2. Select action

    Under 'Cisco Spark', select 'Post New Message' action. This action lets you post messages to your Cisco Spark room.


    Step 3.3. Configure action

    On the 'Configure' page, you need to specify details of the 'Post New Message'.

    Room ID: Click the dropdown icon located on the right-hand side of the field. From the options that appear, select 'Use data from your Cisco Spark account'. This will display the list of all the rooms available in your Cisco Spark account. Select the one where you wish to post the message. 

    Here, select/specify the name/ID of the room. Clicking on the ‘Refresh’ icon will fetch the list of all the rooms present in your Cisco Spark account—based on the connection selected—and display it in the drop-down list.

    Message Type: Click the dropdown icon located on the right-hand side of the field. From given the options, select the type of message you wish to post to your account. The available options are 'Text' and 'Markdown'. 

    Message: Since we want the details of the lead to be posted as a new message in Cisco Spark room, we will use the output of the previous action as input for this field. To do this, click the dropdown button, and click on 'Trigger Data', then select the ‘Lead ID’, 'First Name', and ‘Last Name’ key from the list.


    Click 'Next' to save and complete this step.

  • Step 4. Save flow

    Once you have set up the 'Post New Message' action, you will be redirected to the 'Flow Settings' page, where you can add title, tags, and description for the flow. You can also add an action or save your flow from here.

    Click the 'Save Flow' link to save your flow.


  • Step 5. Test Flow

    The 'Test Flow' button allows you to test whether your flow has been configured properly or not. When you click on this button, the flow sends dummy trigger data to the configured actions. If the flow runs properly, it means that flow has been configured without any errors, and is ready to  be used.

    Now whenever a new deal is created in Marketo, the flow will automatically send the details of the deal to a specified room in Cisco Spark.
